The phenomenal 2017 vintage of this Left Bank Bordeaux style blend culminated in vines that were perfectly balanced, restrained and boasted with the smallest, most concentrated berries. This leaves me with the informed opinion that the vintage of 2017 is without a doubt recognised as one of the most exceptional vintages. It could easily be compared to some of our most successful vintages in the history of De Toren!

VINTAGE: Non-vintage: (Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon (2012) is carefully matured in third fill French oak barrels for twelve months. The 2013 Malbec is fermented without skin contact and aged in Stainless steel tanks to retain the primary fruit aromas and freshness of the wine.
TASTING NOTES:
Imagine the sensual pleasure of fresh, ripe, red strawberries combined with rose petals, marshmallows and the mystical aroma of cinnamon. The gentle tannins and delicate balance of acidity gives this wine its unique character of being fresh, youthful and light. The flavours are playful and mischievous in the mouth with a lingering, lazy aftertaste.

SERVING SUGGESTION:
The Proprietors blend is once again impressive and serious in 2016.
Medium to full-bodied, it is strewn with black fruits, exotic spice and chards of dark chocolate. Sweet spicy oak melts into a dense, powerfully-fruited and structured core. The majority Cabernet Sauvignon gives a cassis purity and salty edge, while the Shiraz component adds a meaty, savoury and spicy edge.
The blend is rounded off by the remaining Bordeaux cultivars in a complexity explosion from start to finish. It is exquisitely textured and finely tuned, the 2016 will open up over the next 5 years and age for a decade or more.

It is almost 20 years since Vilafonte’s Dr. Phil Freese identified the unique vilafontes soils on our expressive parcel of Simonsberg Mountain bench-land, which defines the core and essence of our winegrowing.
The dry and windy start to spring in September 2012 produced tell-tale weather patterns for a great 2013 vintage. Our locality on the northern Simonsberg bench managed to side step the devastating winds that later that year wreaked havoc through many of the vineyards in Stellenbosch. Weather leading to harvest ranged from mild to very warm, allowing our grapes to reach full even phenolic ripeness with ease.
Deep red and black fruit leads this Malbec driven vintage of the series m. A nose of blackberries, black cherries, raspberry and beef bouillon is followed by balsamic, dried flowers and chocolate with a beautiful perfume undertone. The palate is soft and inviting with good weight and composure.
